TYLER, TX (KLTV)- One East Texas branch of a national financial organization is spending part of their summer collecting items to help our troops.
The Wells Fargo Advisors have kicked off their fourth annual Operation American Pride Project to show their appreciation to the men and women who serve in harm's way each day.
"We sit here every day - as you can tell sitting here in my nice, air-conditioned office, not worrying anything for my safety," said Greg Strnadel, a senior vice president for Wells Fargo Advisors. "And so, as I sit here, those men and women are paying the price for that, and so it's a chance for us to let them know that, number one, we appreciate them. Number two, let them know that we have not forgot about them, and we want to continue to serve them."
Since June 1, 15 Wells Fargo branches from Jonesboro, Arkansas to Bryan-College Station have been collecting items for care packages.
They are collecting non-perishable food items like beef jerky and crackers, baby wipes, hygiene items, candy, and other things the project organizers say we may take for granted.
Hundreds of boxes have been distributed to members of all branches of the military.
"We work with the base in Killeen and they actually distribute them for us. So we have a network with the USO that actually decides which servicemen and women, and we give priority to those coming from our area," said Strnadel.
You can drop off your donations at participating Wells Fargo locations until July 4.
Wells Fargo is also partnering with the Military Officers Association of America to collect monetary donations for care packages. Anyone wanting to donate can make a check payable to Rose Capital Chapter MOAA/Operation American Pride and mail to P.O. Box 130921, Tyler, TX, 75713.
