BULLARD, TX (KLTV)- An East Texas family is asking their neighbors to help take care of a turkey vulture that is now taking up residence in their neighborhood.
The family says Herman, the turkey vulture, has been there for about a month, and has a wounded wing. They say looking after the bird is their only option to keep it from being euthanized by animal control.
"We're probably the only neighborhood with a neighborhood buzzard," says Scott Smith, whose step-daughter found Herman, the turkey vulture.
Herman was found with a wounded wing by Heather Anderson and her family on Mother's Day.
Taking him to a rescue was their first thought, but they are currently full so they have a plan B.
"Basically, we just have to make sure it has water and food," says Anderson.
At first glance, the buzzard might look a little scary. So Heather has decided to educate herself and her neighbors about turkey vultures and their diets.
